Barwa Real Estate Group and GORD Sign Sustainability Agreement

Barwa Real Estate Group, represented by Waseef, signed a cooperation agreement with the Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD) to advance sustainability and enhance the efficiency of buildings and real estate assets through specialized standards and solutions that improve environmental and operational performance. The signing took place in the presence of Eng. Ahmad Mohammed Al Tayeb, Group Chief Executive Officer of Barwa Real Estate Group.

The agreement was signed by Eng. Mohammed Ismail Al Emadi, Chief Executive Officer of Waseef, and Dr. Yousef bin Mohammed Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD, at Barwa Real Estate Group’s pavilion at Cityscape Qatar 2026.

The agreement focuses on cooperation in applying the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) standards for sustainable, environmentally responsible buildings. It also covers exploring solutions to optimize energy and resource consumption, enhance operational efficiency and improve the environmental performance of real estate assets.

The agreement also provides opportunities to exchange knowledge and technical expertise and explore practical initiatives for existing buildings and assets. These efforts aim to improve performance and support alignment with sustainability requirements while maintaining operational efficiency and long-term asset value.

The agreement aligns with Barwa Real Estate Group’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of its property portfolio by improving asset management and operational practices and adopting specialized solutions that balance operational efficiency, environmental performance and economic value.

Commenting on the agreement, Eng. Mohammed Ismail Al Emadi, Chief Executive Officer of Waseef, said: “This agreement reflects our commitment to continually improving how we manage and operate real estate assets, drawing on specialized expertise and GSAS standards to enhance the efficiency and performance of properties managed and operated by Waseef, whether owned by Barwa Real Estate Group or other entities. We consider sustainability an important element of asset management, given its contribution to operational efficiency and the preservation of long-term asset value.”

He added: “Through our cooperation with GORD, we look forward to benefiting from its expertise, exchanging knowledge on sustainable buildings and exploring practical solutions and initiatives suited to the characteristics and needs of different assets. These efforts will support resource efficiency and create lasting value for assets and those who use them.”

Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD, said: “We are pleased to collaborate with Barwa Real Estate Group, represented by Waseef, and see this partnership as an important step towards expanding the application of GSAS standards in real estate asset management and operations. Sustainability extends beyond the design and construction of buildings; it is reflected in how efficiently they are operated and managed throughout their lifecycle.”

He added: “This cooperation offers an opportunity to apply GSAS standards and GORD’s expertise to translate sustainability objectives into practical, measurable improvements in existing assets. By assessing the needs of each asset and identifying opportunities to optimise energy and resource consumption, we can help improve environmental and operational performance while preserving long-term value.”
